There is no need to delve very far into this again. It has been spun so many times. We know byU didn't start winning championships until ASU and Arizona left the WAC for the PAC. It gave a false sense of power to those lovely people down south. Once Utah awoke from its 20yr dark ages, roughly between '70-'90, byU suddenly faded back to their past ways of irrelevancy. 24 championships for the Utes. 7 undefeated seasons. 2 BCS titles. Quite relevant.
Football in the state of Utah has a funny way of balancing itself. Once byU graduated from being a high school up until 1922, it began its years of irrelevancy in football. It wasn't until 1978 (coincidentally when ASU/Arizona left) before there was a consistent winning streak. Quite interesting. Wow, 1922-1978, those were some great years. Then post 1992, they seemed to go back to those early days. From 1992-the end of the WAC days, there was only a single outright championship. I'm only using outright, because that was your criteria. Then in 2001 there was one more but that was debunked by the impressive showing at Hawaii to end the season. Finally, there were two more titles in '06 +'07 with a couple of Vegas bowls, and that's it. No sniffing of BCS. Just lots of sand to pound.
Talk about irrelevant. Only one single undefeated season in history? And, it came in a year when not a single team faced ended up ranked. Plus, the bowl game was against a team that finished 6-6.
This is what most find hilarious. So much pride built on sand. You should know that primary song by now. But, I guess that is all a mid-major can stand on.
