I recently have joined a cohort group with folks of various backgrounds. I joined in the late summer right before I went on a trip to South Carolina. Therefore, for some reason, several in the group think I'm new to Utah from South Carolina.
Now I have never met with these folks in person until yesterday. As I arrived, several were talking about the lack luster games the Y has left on their schedule. I listened in, but pretended not to. Then they started in on the U and how them struggling in the PAC was just the best thing ever. So it was at that point I decided to ride this whole South Carolina bit.
I asked if they were talking about Utah. They confirmed. I stated that I had heard they had a good program and "didn't they join a big conference recently." They went on and on about how it was all about politics, political correctness and liberalism. I listened and pretended to learn.
I then asked, well, if not Utah, "who should have been invited". A mili-second later one states, "BYU". I respond "who?" "BYU!" Me - "Who's that?" Them - "BYU?!?! You've never heard of BYU?" Me - "Is that Boise's nick name?" Them - "Brigham Young?!?!" Me - Oh, isn't he that guy who had all those wives and one of his followers is that Jeff's guy?" Them - "No!" I then proceeded to get a church history lesson, which was not accurate anyway, as well as an interesting interpretation of how dominate BYU was in all sports for the last 4 decades.
I ended it with, "I'll have to check them out, when do they play next." Them - "Next Saturday against Idaho." Me - "Why they playing Idaho, are they in the WAC?" One sighs, "No".
I had to stop as I was losing the battle to fight back the laughter.
After our network work shop, we all walked out to our cars. I hurried to my truck as I wanted to leave first. As I pulled away, one of them pointed at the U sticker in my back window and looked disgusted in shock. The other, to his credit just busted out laughing. I had to stop and go back to let them know I was just yanking their chains. I even bought the one lunch. It was money well spent!
