How many pros did Butler have on its team last year? Zero.
How many two years ago? One.
And they made it to two consecutive national championship games.
If you think for a second that Utah is going to attract a bunch of sure fire pros in the next five years, you are a #%!@ing idiot. Why would they come to Utah? No coach, no matter how well they recruit, is going to get those kids to Utah.
Instead, we need to follow the blueprint of success over the years. We need to get the best talent in Utah, find gems from the coast and hopefully throw in a few euros or talented kids from a few other places. We need to find mixers, shooters, rebounders and guys who were either under the readar (van horn, doleac, etc) or guys in Utah who want to play basketball in Utah (like loveridge). Then we need to get them to play together as a team--like Butler. We need kids that will play here for 4 years and we need coaches who can make players better by teaching them fundamental defensive aspects in those four years.
I fully expect Matthews' dad to take him out of the program and find another place for him next year because he is not playing. We can't have kids like that.
If anybody thinks we are going to recruit a bunch of NBA guys like Kentucky or UConn or AZ or UCLA--you're nuts.
