First, I would like to apologize for not making it down to the UFN tailgate. I got caught up with my own tailgate and a couple that were around me. A big THANK YOU to those of you who came and found me. Both myself and my dad were happy to meet some of you for the first time. I was able to meet midnightversion, L-Rae (who is GORGEOUS btw), RaiderUte, stgeorgeutefan, and Big Kahuna. It was also good to see others including WebMonkey, Warrior Ute, UtahUte72, Freaky Girl, Loyter, Ute King, Steve-O (aquasteve), Utahman19, etc. Sorry if I missed you! Hopefully I will be able to make it around more at the next home game.

A GIANT THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS

    by BaldHatu
    2008-09-07 18:27:51

I just want to give an enthusiastic thumbs up to Urban Meyer for engaging it and to the MUSS for keeping it going. Last nights showing by the student section was tremendous. As an old alumn I remember seeing that section vacant. A strong football program needs an engaged student body - they are tomorrow's season ticket holders and supporters (the life blood of a quality program).

Seeing the sea of red and the jumping students will contribute significantly to make the University of Utah football program strong and respected. Not to mention giving a very strong HF advantage that will result in additional wins.

    Nice job group!

Pardon this proud father for a minute

    by runnutz
    2008-09-08 09:42:05

My youngest son is getting married this coming Saturday, when he told me he was going to get married in the fall I asked him to at least do it on a Saturday that the Utes get the bye.

Anyway his lovely bride to be tells him she doesn't want to see him the night before, some superstition she has. So my kid has his choice as to what to do and who to do it with.

He calls me and wants to know if I will hang with him, for me to plan anything and he is up for it. Hell yes, I'm proud as hell now. We will be playing some golf, hitting some manly man movie and eating where he wants to pick.

    Sorry to get emotional.

As far as I'm concerned USU is the best team in America..

    by UtesRus
    2008-09-07 18:36:47

Sure we rolled over a team they lost to and they got beat by a very good Oregon team, Top-10 IMHO, but these guys will be fired up for us.

It's a rivalry game and our guys CANNOT get lulled to sleep thinking that they can walk all over USU. Remember USU BEAT Fresno State in 2006 in Logan and they will have the same upset-attitude. ANY GIVEN SATURDAY GENTLEMEN!

We can't overlook USU, they have D1 athletes and we need to play to our potential regardless of who we're lining up against - that's the mark of a great team! Revenge on UNLV is completed, now let's go out there and take care of business against the Aggies.

    Go Utes!

    Beat the Aggies!!

A Ute in Utah County no More!

    by bsalmon
    2008-09-07 23:43:09

It's that time of the year again. The days are getting shorter, the air is getting cooler, and the sounds of whiny little BYU fans can be found on any local sports radio show. It can mean only one thing, it is college football season.

First of all, I have a few things to get off my chest. This is my first time in 7 years not living in Provo, eh, excuse me, Cougar Town during college football season. (Mayor Lewis Billings has officially changed the name of Provo to "Cougar Town" on game days.) Boy does this feel good. I am glad that I can go to Church now and not be compelled to feel guilty for not following the "Lord's University." Sorry Brother Baxter, I guess I will just have to deal with rotting in hell with all the other infidel school supporters. At least I'll have most of the Brethren there to keep me company.

Wearing a Utah shirt in Provo is like like wearing a mink coat at a PETA convention. Even worse, let someone in your LDS ward in Provo know that you are a Utah fan, and it's time for a ward fast and your name on the prayer roll. If you still stay strong after that then it is condemnation and a calling to teach the 12 year olds.

I was almost disowned by my parents when they found out I was going to BYU for school. I have never felt like such a disappointment to my father. I promised them that the school would never change my heart. To my parent's great pleasure, the prodigal son has returned home. Unchanged and as dyed in the red as ever. After 7 years of living in Provo, I have remained strong and firm in the faith. Never wavering, tried and true, a promoter of free thinking and unpunished 5 o'clock shadows everywhere, who am I sir, a UTAH man am I!

The best part of being 2-0 is the opportunity to be 3-0......

    by jdart
    2008-09-07 22:17:34

It is truly amazing how much better being 2-0 feels than being 0-2 did last year. This is night and day better, and I owe a big thanks to our players for that. My house is a much more peaceful place this September. Now some game thoughts:

-I'm happy to report that the countdown clock in the weight room no longer counts down to the Zoo, but to the next game each week. There has been a big new commitment to taking every game one at a time and looking past no one, and this is just one outward example.

    - The Ute Walk had better attendance than last year, but I still hope more will come. Thanks to the Utebullog, Hooterspuppy crew for crossing 500 south to stand on the other side of the street with my crew, but I still hope every game attendance will continue to grow and some day we fill gaurdsmen and 500 south.

    - I'd like to thank Monkey for working on an event with Lumpy's on Friday nights, and I hope more will consider showing up in the future. Myself, my wife, my buddy Ben and Warren Brooks (Jereme's dad) were the only ones there most of the night, then Loyter and Ilove22's showed showed up later with their imaginary friends (imagine our shock later when people actually came and occupied the other half of their table [Open message for image] .) But, the attractive waitresses were out in full force, and the food was as good as always. The crowd may have been small, but it was still a good night

    - It really is too bad our coaching staff doesn't know how to make half time adjustments.

    - It was nice to see the stadium full and the student section rocking. Too bad that was only true in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Why the hell were so many people late to a 6:00 pm game? Where did you have to get to at 9:15? I can confirm in my section, many who left with 7 minutes to play were the same people booing and bitching in the first half....figures.

-The number of smoking hot women in our stadium seemed to increase drastically from last season. Well done Utes!!

    - Brent Casteel's block on our first touchdown may have been my favorite moment of the game, even if BJ could have scored without it. And it was still the second best down field block of the day.

-UNLV has more players that will talk trash back to fans in warm up drills than any other team to visit Rice-Eccles in years. I thought UCLA was bad last year, this was way worse. It was great. But, I do have to congratulate the coaching staff of UNLV for preparing Summers and keeping him under control. When we first started talking to him, to coaches pulled him aside and he never said a word, although he did turn to us a few times and acknowledge it. He was ready for it, and handled himself well.

    -David Reed is really fast

-I hear Capt'n Warfare may still have some available eligibility. He may need to play D-line, so be ready for the call

-Asiata's pass was incredible. He put that ball perfectly placed with amazing touch. Few quarterbacks could have thrown that any better.

-The wave is lame, and I completely blame it for UNLV's final drive. If our fans would have been focused on helping our D by being loud, and not on doing the wave we might have got a stop and still covered the spread.

-I'm a fan of the Under Armor gear and think the new uniforms looked good. I also thought the "protect this House" 3rd down ads on the scoreboard were a really good mix of advertising and things that make sense for a game.

-There was a lot of post game traffic coming back south over the point of the mountain. I can certainly tell you that the fan base In Utah County has grown drastically over the past 8-10 years, and everywhere we can grow the fan base in state is great for the athletic department

139 hours and 49 minutes until we play the best team in the nation on their field. Go Utes!!!

  • Utes roll Rebels
Utah (2-0, 1-0 MWC) overcame a sluggish start to roll over UNLV (1-1, 0-1) 42-21. Utah's offense picked up where it left off the week before against Michigan, struggling to consistently move the ball down the field before getting on-track in the second half. The Utes were especially bad in the first quarter, gaining just 35 yards while failing to sustain any drive beyond four plays. Utah's defense had a difficult time containing Frank Summers, UNLV's massive, 240 pound running back in the first half. Summers ran for 82 yards and 2 touchdowns in the first 30 minutes of play.
  • Utes face Rebels in conference opener
Utah (1-0) opens conference play early this year as they welcome UNLV (1-0) to Rice-Eccles Stadium. This is the second year in a row that the Utes have opened conference play in the second week of the season. When the schedule was released back in April, Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham addressed the issue of playing a conference game that early in the year. "I'd rather not. You'd rather play all your non-conference up top and then get into your conference schedule, but very few [teams] get to do that." Click here to read more

Three-star wide receiver Ricky Marvray (5-11, 184, 4.5) from Corona (Calif.) Centennial has seven offers on the table. Like for many players the offers have slowed down since July, but it's a very good bet that if he performs the first month of the season like he did during camps he attended, his offer total could double by October. He does have a favorite or two
