Ted,
Your request came up at utefans.net, the leading Ute fan bbs. I'm no offical rep but a few of us put our heads together and came up with this list.
We're thrilled to have you covering the Ute football beat. If you need leads or whatever, feel free to hit us up over at Utefans. We're happy to help.
This list was put together in under an hour with an emphasis on what is close to the campus--made an effort to limit all suggestions to within 10 minutes' drive. Wanted to make sure you had something before you get here.
Breakfast:
Big Ed's just off the main circle of campus.
Dee's on 2100 S and 700 E. Two eggs, toast and coffee for under $5.
Round House Cafe at 1060 E 100 S.
Blue Plate Diner at 2100 S 2100 E. Hipster Dee's.
Lunch/Dinner:
The Pie for Pizza on 200 S just west of the circle.
Mazza at 9th and 9th. Good Mediterranean.
Kyoto at 900 E 1300 S. Japanese.
Red Iguana at 700 W N Temple.
Hires at 400 S 700 E for burgers.
Training Table at 2200 S 1300 E.
Market Street Broiler at 250 S 1300 E for "California" cuisine--fish, a starchy side and vegetables.
Moochies at 232 East 800 South for "meatballs and more!"
Sage's Cafe at 473 E 300 S. 90% organic if that matters to you.
Frida Bistro at 545 West 700 South. Veggie and Mexican.
Takashi for Sushi at 18 Market Street downtown.
New Yorker/Ruth's Criss for steak within stone's throw of Takashi.
Taco carts in front of Sears at 800 S State St. Doesn't get more authentic than that, and people swear by them.
Have a safe trip!
