There are several reasons...

First he's a $#!+ty indefensible hire, although I have to acknowledge that is directed at Dr. Hill. But I'll give you reasons.
1. We bitched about Boylens lack of experience and then hire a guy with less.
2. We need talent and hired a guy known as a bad/indifferent recruiter.
3. We need to recruit Pac 12 level talent and hire a guy who has been out of the game for five years, wasn't sought after while he was out.
4. His only qualification seems to be beating an overrated Nevada team five years ago and a 2nd place finish in the Big Sky, essentially the qualifications of Ray Giacolletti.
Then he shows up and for inexplicable reasons decides to blow up something when he didn't have to.
1. Larry probably doesn't save Clyburn but he doesn't even try. Although this is a minor point.
2. He blows off Sharp and O'Brien and make no mistake both were savable. If you keep Obrien, Glover, an athlete like Lee, we have a foundation. Instead he brings in bad JC's to replace bad JC's and our hopes for a year from now are a Eastern Washington PG and a guy from LSU who averaged 7 PPG that every school on our level passed on.
3. He is a blowhard about wanting guys to want Utah on their chest and then runs guys who actually want to stay.
4. He keeps talking $#!+ about Jim Boylen.
So he's a dick. He's made a point of us having even worse talent. He's losing recruiting battles to UNLV and Wichita St.
All I wanted was a clear upgrade from Jim Boylen and a guy who could recruit and take responsibility. And Larry isn't any of that.
Was that so much to ask?
