The Double Entendre Coach

Dear Geezers panicking about an OC who is in his mid-twenties leading our program's offense against "much more experienced" coaches, citing his youth and inexperience as spelling certain doom to our program. Change your poopy Depends attitude, drink your Fiber One, and calm the freak down - you're going to bust an artery.

If youth and inexperience are the only things you all are having a heart attack about, may I remind you that one of the richest people on the planet is 27 years old. He was only 19 when he invented this fandangled social media thingy called Facebook, which went public yesterday (minor correction, they FILED TO GO PUBLIC, yesterday - thanks Texas broski) and is now worth $100 billion. This kid was young, had no experience, and didn't have a pot to piss in, but man was he smart, talented, competitive, and driven.

Well, I think Brian is young, talented, competitive, driven, and as we all know, has no OC experience. But, I am not a stinky-eye grumpy old man who thinks the sky is falling every time a chopper flies by. So, I LOVE THIS HIRE. It makes logical sense on many levels and frankly I think he's going to kick ass in the Pac-12. But I have also had interactions with BJ, so I know a lot about the guy - he's a super-smart guy and knows the game really well. Whereas almost everyone commenting on this has no idea who the guy really is, and what he is all about. So I can understand the fear.

But, fear not my friends, BJ is a GREAT choice. He brings a fresh perspective on offense, he knows football better than Bo, he is a winner, he can relate to players, he is from Texas, and he has a Tweeter AND Facebook account.

To top it off, BJ is one of the coolest people on the planet.

His youth is an asset you crazy old fools. The modern game is radically different from the one that you grew up watching back in the 80's. It is played by kids who grew up in a different era, an era that IS ABSOLUTELY FOREIGN to many coaches (and many fans in this site) - why do you think Sark is kicking ass up in Washington? That guy is a cool young football brainiac, because it sure as Hell ain't Seattle, since that place hasn't been cool since flannel shirts and t-shirts were cool - No people, flannels and t-shirts with Timberlands are OUT...WAAY OUT.

Look, let me put it this way - Tevita's kid, Mo, is a FRESHMAN this year. I remember that dude having a career day against us back in the day. Now HIS KID IS A FRESHMAN, wow, I'm getting old. So I know that evolution is part of the process and I think Coach Whit is a guy on the leading edge of the game. He's promoting a young, talented, and competitive guy.

It's a low risk, high reward potential, and low cost hire. He knows the program, knows the players, coaches and administration, has experience running multiple playbooks, and he's willing to use what works in the modern game versus what worked 20 years ago.

If you old people get off your duff and think about it some, you'll realize that it is a good hire. But, we all won't know until after next year.

Until then, quit shaking your fists at the sky.

Go Utes!!
