I think a lot of the racism down there is often due to ignorance and lack of exposure. Factor that with an unhealthy persecution complex and have a pretty potent recipe.
Have you seen American History X? They are being racist in the way the father was racist, and not the white supremacists. Sorry, but to jump to the conclusion that Johnson was hired because he is black is by definition a racist stance.
