That's the key, wife and kids. If I was just me, I may very well order the intruder to the floor, and call the police.

If my fatherly instinct kicked in, however, and I felt the person was a threat to the wellbeing of my family I have no doubt that I would be able to take that person's life. I may have to deal with it later through trips to a shrink, but I can handle that if it means my family is safe.

I am not a "gun nut," but I sleep with an XDm 40 next to my bed (enough firepower to put down just about anybody). There are too many wackadoos, and tweakers out there to rely on police response. Nothing against the police, but you may only have seconds when it takes them minutes to get there. I do agree with you about the guys who brag about blowing a hole in a guy like it's no big deal, or something to brag about. That's bull$#!+.

Agent47 icon NEW: I think that the duty to protect family is paramount, but I don't get the chest thumping by people who have no idea how they'd react in the same situation.

Utesbyfive icon NEW: The man said he had a gun, he demanded that they get their car keys to take them to an undisclosed location, where he would have more than likely killed them. It was a very clean Self-Defense shooting.

BKW icon NEW: Intruders need to realize thats the chance they take. If someone has the balls to break in a occupied home, they need to be considered a threat because there is a good chance they are packing, and don't give a hoot about killing you. (nm)

BKW icon NEW: Thats the thing, most of the time these intruders are in your house because they need to pay for their fix, and are high or suffering from serious withdraws often reducing them to desperate dangerous individuals who don't give a $#!+ for life. (nm)
