The printing press set the beliefs in stone. Additional inventions like computers and the internet help communicate these beliefs over large distances.
For this reason I think the variations on the major religions will be minor going forward. It will also be very difficult to start new religions that can get enough traction to get large.
For this reason I think religion will be very similar in the to today in the distant future. Only moderate changes will happen.
