Yes you need to make adjustments to give your players a best shot, but you need to recruit players for your system. This IS the problem we have been going through and THE reason why we have depth issues on offense. We have had for the most part the same defensive scheme for a while which allows us to find players who fit that scheme so when a player is injured the person behind him is just as capable of executing the system.
Look at our quarter backs last year. Wynn a pro offense QB, Wilson pro offense with some spread attributes, Schulz a wing offense QB, Hansen a spread option QB, and Hays who is probably somewhere between pro and spread option as well. We have not done a good job at sticking to an identity which makes it difficult to have players to step up when someone goes down and honestly is a complete waste of talent. This also applies to our Offensive Line where we have a mix of big/power players mixed with smaller but faster/athletic players. That is a cluster#%!@ of combinations and it is showing up on the field.
