Curses to all travel websites!
by Cauayan 2013-04-22 11:15:32
Booked a flight through a popular travel website months ago. Got an email last week saying changes were made. I go to the travel website and view our itinery (how do you spell that word anyway?) and printed it out to prepare on leaving at the time listed.
We arrive today as noted on our itinery (sp?), and low and behold DL says we missed our flight as it was earlier this morning. What? Our itinery (sp?) says it leaves at 12:05pm, not 9:48am! We were informed of the changes by our favorite little elf! Clerk person looks at it, types on their top secret keyboard and says, "That was the original flight, but that was changed to the flight earlier today because we canceled that flight several weeks ago."
Curses you little elf! If you tell me changes were made, then show it in an updated itinery (sp?)!!
So, boys and girls, liberals and conservatives, Ute fans and those offended by Utes name, the morale of this sad tale and experience of mine...
Walk to your next destination. You can then only blame yourself for not arriving on schedule at your destination.
I was pondering about the drums that come out after 3rd Q ends of football home games. Wouldn't it be awesome to see something like this along with the 4 cannon blasts afterward:
The lists I've seen have all been good. I'll just add a few more I have enjoyed watching several times. This list is not a ranking. (Main reason why I like the movie in parentheses).
Whale Rider (Maori culture)
The Patriot (Revolutionary War)
The Man From Snowy River (Horse Riding)
The Gold Rush (Charlie Chaplin)
Just saw on U athletic site that those serving lds missions before enrolling at Utah will not sign NLIs. Any idea on who some of these (future) Utes will be?
by Cauayan 2013-02-06 09:05:23
Note: An NLI may be signed only for the upcoming year, so Utah's 2013 signing class includes only those members who will enroll during in 2013-14. Other prospects, for example those who plan to serve church missions before enrolling at Utah, did not sign NLIs today.
Guns don't scare me. Phase guns do. I can't wait to get me one of these.
by Cauayan 2012-12-27 11:53:22
A widely used personal weapon in the Pangalactic Federation, Phase Guns fire a powerful beam of energy that destroys the molecular cohesion of the target's matter through phase magnification. It is possible to control the power output of the beam by adjusting its focus setting. A stun mode is available for knocking human-sized animals unconscious, as well as a vaporization mode that will completely vaporize an object the size of an automobile.
Growing up a BYU fan as a young kid, I never watched Utah except when they played BYU. Later in life, I became a fan of Utah due in part to Utah basketball with Rick Majerus.
I eventually became a student at the U., graduated, and now a forever fan of Utah. Thanks Rick for converting me to the true university.
Downtown Salt Lake City has lights up for the holiday season. The lights along main street are blue. Yes, blue. I would expect to see this color in Provo.
I guess the blue lights were on sale at Kmart or something.
Since Salt Lake City is home of the Utes, the lights should be red and white. Perhaps somebody could get Salt Lake City to donate those blue lights to Provostan while Ute Fans donate the red and white lights for SLC to use.
Come on, I am sure any child can check the book out at the local public library. Just because a school library places a rule on it doesn't mean every little Johnny and Susie can't read or look at the pictures. Last time I checked, it was free to get a library card from the local library nearby.
Perhaps the parent just saw an opportunity to get some fame and maybe a little fortune? I don't quite get her logic about why a lawsuit on this matter.
The Miss Earth 2012 pageant is under way in the Philippines. The finals are set for November 24th. Here is a link to a gallery of the contestants. Who is your favorite to win it all?

Winning Division Title hope is gone. (Thanks Arizona! :( ) Playing in a bowl game is the next hope.
by Cauayan 2012-11-05 13:27:07
After we beat WSU, then Oregon beating USC, and OSU beating ASU, winning the division title still was a possibility. Only needed Arizona to beat UCLA. That didn't happen. The next best scenario is Utah ties everyone else for the division title, but since Utah lost to USC, UCLA, and ASU, there is no chance Utah can play for Conference Championship.
So our next hope is to play in a bowl game.
If OU plays in MNC game, OSU possibly plays in Rose Bowl (as long as they stay in top 14 BCS final ranking). Next best team goes to Alamo, then Holiday, Sun, Las Vegas, Kraft Fight Hunger and finally New Mexico.
Possible Bowls:
MNC - Oregon
Rose - OSU/Stanford
Alamo - Stanford/OSU
Holiday - UCLA/USC/ASU
Sun - USC/ASU/UCLA
Las Vegas - ASU/USC/UCLA
Kraft FH - Utah/Washington/Arizona
New Mexico - Utah/Washington/Arizona
ASU, Arizona, and Washington need one more win to become bowl eligible. Here are their opponents coming up:
ASU: at USC, WSU, at Arizona
Arizona: Colorado, at Utah, ASU
Washington: Utah, at Colorado, at WSU
As we all know, Utah needs to win 2 more games to become bowl eligible. (at Washington, Arizona, at Colorado)
Other conferences may not fill all their bowl tie-ins, so Utah/Washington/Arizona could fill one of those open spots. (Big East, Conference USA, ARMY bowl tie-ins)
Still a slight chance to win conference...there is always hope

Utah has to win remaining 5 games to go 5-4 in conference.
USC has to lose all 4 conference games remaining to go 4-5 in conference (at Arizona, Oregon, ASU, at UCLA) to be 4-5.
ASU has to beat USC, then lose all other games (UCLA, at OSU, WSU, at Arizona) to be 4-5.
UCLA has to beat USC and ASU and lose all other games (Arizona, at WSU, Stanford) to be 4-5.
Arizona has to beat USC, UCLA, and ASU and lose to Utah and lose (or win) vs Colorado to be 4-5 (or 5-4) [Utah beating Arizona would give Utah head-to-head tiebreaker if same record]
Colorado just needs to have at most a 4-5 record (or 5-4, if they beat Arizona so Utah would have tie breaker over Colorado). They play at Oregon, Stanford, and Washington for other games with 1-3 current record (1-4 with Utah loss).
Most everything is possible, although WSU beating ASU and UCLA seem a long shot right now.
Our hope can still be alive by gametime if UCLA beats ASU and Arizona beats USC Saturday afternoon.
Eraserheads. A popular Philippine band from 90's. Most songs are in Filipino, but here's a good one in English for your enjoyment. Youtube video has lyrics in case you are unable to understand their singing accents.

UCLA OL is young. There is potential for a lot of sacks and tackles for loss.
by Cauayan 2012-10-11 15:21:20
I found the OL info from their game day notes on their website.
Starters:
LT - Torian White (6-5,,285, RS FR)
LG - Xavier Su'a-Filo (6-4,,295, SO)
C - Jake Brendel (6-4,,295, RS FR)
RG - Jeff Baca (6-3, 295, SR)
RT - Simon Goines (6-7, 324, FR)
OFFENSIVE LINE — The Bruins started three freshmen on the offensive line in a season-opening game for the first time in history. Redshirt freshmen Torian White joined true freshman Simon Goines at the tackle positions; Jake Brendel handled the center spot.
Redshirt senior JEFF BACA (#60), who has 37 career starts, started at guard in the first two games of the 2012 season and in the last two contests at Cal and Colorado. He started at tackle for 11 contests last season before sliding to guard against Illinois in the bowl game. In 2009, he started all 13 games at left guard. In 2008, he appeared in nine games with eight starts at left tackle.
True sophomore XAVIER SU’A-FILO (#56) returns to UCLA after serving a two-year Mormon mission. Su’a Filo started the first six games of 2012 at guard. He re-enrolled in school for the 2012 Winter Quarter and was back on the field in the spring. In 2009, he started all 13 games at left tackle which was the most starts by a Bruin true freshman at any non-kicking position. Su’a-Filo became the first Bruin true freshman to start a season-opener on the offensive side of the ball and earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honors.
I used a new website I found on the interwebs that brought up some nice articles on football..

Since BJ mentioned the offense would use a lot of spread, I found this info on the spread using this awesome interwebsite word finder:
The main intent of the spread offense formation is to make the defense cover a greater area of the football field. Following these four guidelines creates more opportunities for the offense.
Four Means More
1. Players perform better when they understand what they are to do. Offensive coordinators can speed up the learning process by installing mirror pass routes.
2. Set up the deep pass by throwing out of the same formation which is bringing your positive yardage when running the ball.
3. A popular passing concept is the smash route. Adding a slight adjustment will create more headaches for the opposing defense.
4. Defenses with exceptional outside linebacker talent can be a real pain in the rear for the spread passing game. Attacking the Man-Free/Cover 1 defense properly puts the advantage back to the offensive side of the ball.
Pre-Snap Reads Important
Teach the quarterback to count the number of defenders in the tackle box, and install at least one run audible and one pass audible.
- If there are seven or more defenders in the box, a pass play is likely to be more effective.
- If there are six or less defenders in the box, a rushing play is a better call.
Someone please let BJ know about this awesome interwebsite Google.com If he could implement these four principles into the passing attack, our offense will be unstoppable like Oregon. (TIC) Link to above info Link to Google
