Sage Thompson adds to one of the most decorated freshman classes in program history, coming to the U as the 2019 Junior Olympic uneven bars national champion. A local standout from Lehi, Utah, Thompson was a three-time Junior Olympic National Championship qualifier (2017-19). Along with her first-place finish on bars in 2019, Thompson finished sixth in the all-around. The year prior, she finished as the J.O. runner up on the uneven bars, while recording a fifth-place finish on vault. Thompson also had a phenomenal showing at the national level on bars once again at the 2019 Nastia Liukin Cup, finishing second place on her signature event.

Thompson is a 15-time Utah state champion and seven-time Region 1 champion. She won three consecutive all-around titles at the Region 1 Championships and took home 12 top-three finishes from 2017-19. At the 2019 Region 1 Championships, she was first in the all-around, first on beam, second on bars, third on floor and fifth on vault. In 2018, Thompson won the all-around, bars and beam, placed second on vault, and fourth on floor. She dominated at the state level with the highlight of her Utah State Championship runs coming in 2019 when she won four gold medals (all-around, vault, bars, floor) and the silver medal on beam.
